CONTRACT MANUFACTURING
Vical's manufacturing group has developed innovative, patented purification approaches that allow us to manufacture naked DNA plasmids in gram quantities and within 3-4 months. We are an experienced manufacturer of quality DNA plasmids that may be contracted by others for preclinical and clinical applications. The average time from establishment of master cell bank to release of vialed product is twelve weeks.
We pursue contract manufacturing opportunities to leverage our infrastructure and expertise in plasmid manufacturing, and to provide revenues that contribute to our independent research and development efforts. We have engaged in contract manufacturing for the Dale and Betty Bumpers Vaccine Research Center, or VRC, of the National Institutes of Health, or NIH, and the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative, or IAVI.
From our initial success with our lead clinical products, we have produced more than 30 additional plasmids. The total includes plasmids for our independent cancer immunotherapies, nine malaria antigens, GM-CSF, plus several plasmids for commercial customers.
