2. Once injected, the plasmids enter healthy cells in the
body and move to the nucleus, where they program
the cells to start producing the encoded protein. The
protein is then processed by specialized cells, such as
dendritic cells, which then present it to other cells of the
immune system. Two major types of defense can be
