3. B-cells of the immune system produce antibodies
specifically programmed to seek out the target
protein and bind to it. In an actual infection,
the target protein would typically be displayed
on the surface of the infectious organism. The
antibodies prevent the organism from performing
its normal function, and therefore help control
the spread of the infection. |
